The other day a friend of mine bought a DVD from eBay and he was concerned that it looked like a pirate, he turned to me for help and sent me the package so that I could inspect it.
It was a obvious fake, it was obvious because it was a “burned” disc made on a computer with a DVD writer rather than pressed in a factory.
Burned DVDs are easy to spot because they have blue tint to the playing surface and you can clearly see where the data is written to the disc because of the colour difference.

If only all copies were so easy to spot!
Anyway, whilst it perfectly acceptable for home movies to be burned to a DVD-R disc, none of the proper movies should ever be on a burned DVD, except perhaps for movies that are out of copyright which it’s acceptable to download and burn yourself from websites like www.archive.org
My friend contacted the seller who then made a full refund. The seller claimed to have bought the movie in a boot sale and thought it was real, a unlikely story if I ever heard one.
